Manufacturing Process Engineer

Samara has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Process Engineer who will be responsible for the overall optimization of our manufacturing line process, cycle time/cost reduction, and quality control. As an early team hire, the Manufacturing Process Engineer will design strategies and processes that allow us to scale, capture new business and achieve our financial goals.

This is an in-person position in the San Francisco Bay Area or Las Vegas, NV; all candidates will be required to be on-site in the Las Vegas Valley with regular travel to the San Francisco Bay Area or vice versa.

Responsibilities

  • Design Samara’s manufacturing production line to deliver continuous cost improvement and write quality processes that support the scaling of our factory operations. 
  • Optimize the entire production lifecycle: track production cycle times, go deep on direct labor training, design manufacturing experiments, advise on incoming material packing and more. 
  • Help Samara's cross-functional teams understand the manufacturing impact behind features, design decisions, and material vendors and find solutions that lead to efficient manufacturing processes. 
  • Collaborate with Samara’s engineering team to gather quantitative and qualitative performance data to ensure we meet cost, quality and output targets. 
  • Participate in new product introductions and design revisions to shorten learning cycles, reduce prototyping cycles and costs, and map future production line design.
  • Evaluate jigs, fixtures, tools, semi-automation processes, and workstations to give Samara’s operations team the highest probability of success.
  • Conduct factory audits, quality inspections and vendor factory evaluations.
  • Partner with the supply chain team to evaluate new vendors and factories by interviewing staff, evaluating factory layouts, and providing work instructions.
  • Work with Samara’s VP of operations, engineering and supply chain to set short- and long-term objectives for our factories, vendors and team.

Qualifications

  • Well-honed industrial/process engineering and quality management skills, as well as a deep understanding of manufacturing concepts, including construction, fabrication, machining, hand tooling and general electronics.
  • Excellent fundamental engineering knowledge, with examples of applied engineering successes in work, projects, or academic endeavors.
  • Someone who gets excited about solving a wide range of problems under tight timelines.
  • Highly analytical and big-picture thinker who is passionate about turning concepts into real products.
  • B.S. or M.S. in industrial, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited program.
  • 4-6 years experience in project management, construction management, manufacturing, or process efficiency improvement.
  • Hands-on experience building mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience working with and managing vendors and outside suppliers.
  • Proven ability to carry out impactful research.
  • Incredible communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to autonomously manage projects and maintain communication with key stakeholders.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative: a proactive team player who thinks ahead, plans, and finds solutions.
